Top Girls Poster
University of Redlands
For my university's spring production of Top Girls, I decided the title design could depict the major themes of struggle and gender inequality. By flipping the 's' the title becomes the personification of a woman about to fall from the ladder of success.
For my first draft I modeled the key images to be cartoonish - similar to the way I drafted my hand drawn roughs, but realized the stark change from the 'R' to the 'L' in girls would decrease readability. I solved this in the second draft. I also tweeked the letter designs to fill out the title more and rendered the constellations to appear secondly as a neon sign, pointing to a typical location you'd see the word 'Girls' in public places.
Lastly, I played with color and light until I found an end result that was eye popping and visually accurate to a neon sign in a night sky.
