The Rules of Attraction
The depressing despondent film that is, The Rules of Attraction, can be easily dismissed as a rom-com. In attempt to find the right balance of darkness and camp, I was inspired to encapsulate the irony of the title of the film, highlighting how sex dominates rationality.
I highlighted the giggly attitude people take on with sex with the crass yet childish depiction of a penis, which then loses its boorish innocence with a closer look at the rules.
My first draft struggled with the spacing of the typography. I started with a serif font to get across the dichotomy of the crass imagery and the darkness of the film's themes. In my second attempt I went in the opposite direction - full steam ahead on an over the top shape and cartoony sans serif. I believe my final draft to be the happy medium.
